Alliance Manchester Business School

Established in 1965, AMBS was jointly the first Business School in the UK.

We now have around 3,000 students on campus and an academic staff of almost 300. We support a further 3,500 students worldwide through our Global Centres. We have over 40,000 alumni spanning 161 nationalities.

Global reputation

The School is part of the prestigious University of Manchester with its 180-year record of academic excellence and 25 Nobel Prize winners among its current and former staff and students. It is the largest single site university in the UK, and one of the largest in Europe, with nearly 40,000 students. The University was recently placed in the top 50 in the Times World University Rankings 2011-2012.

Our MBA programme is rated as one of the top 10 in Europe, and among the top 30 in the world in leading MBA league tables – and we are always striving to do better.

People who write the textbooks teach our students. Full professors make up 30% of academic staff, and in the most recent 2008 RAE (the UK government’s rating of research quality) AMBS was the UK’s leading centre for business research. The FT Global MBA Rankings 2014 ranked our doctoral programme 3rd in the world.

The School and its MBA programmes have a strong international emphasis. One third of our teaching and research staff are from outside the UK, representing more than 40 countries. We also have an extensive network of global centres in Dubai, Singapore, Hong Kong, Shanghai and São Paulo. We recruit an exceptionally diverse cohort of students every year onto our MBA Programmes, so you will benefit from studying alongside peers from all over the world.

We produce highly skilled students and offer superb experience in meeting real business challenges. This explains why top global businesses, such as American Express, Citigroup, KPMG, SITA and Johnson & Johnson, choose to employ our MBA graduates.

Well connected

AMBS has excellent relationships with local, national and international business people, many of whom have direct connections to the MBS programme. As an MBA student you will benefit from access to industry leaders and business and management experts through guest lectures, workshops, master classes and networking events.
